On May 1, 2017, It was an exciting evening. So much passion and controversy over this wonderful building. At the end of the evening the voters of Sterling spoke loud and clear. Do something and do it now! No more studies. Article 16 passed by majority which calls for needed repairs to the roof structure, removal of slate, underlayment and shingling with architectural asphalt which looks like slate and finishing the great hall with raised ceilings with open view from gallery to stage. We now get to relieve the structure from the heavy load it has been carrying for 125 years and add new vibrance and utility to our great Town Hall.
Thank you everyone for your support!
The 1835 Town Hall Committee is excited to work with our Town Administrator and the Board of Selectmen in the job ahead of us. It is time to make the voters proud and the Town Hall shine.
On April 9, 2014, The Sterling 1835 Town Hall Committee presented the Sterling Board of Selectmen with a photograph of the Town Hall Building as a small gesture of our thanks to show our appreciation for their support over the years as well as the support of the people of the Town of Sterling. If it were not for their continued backing, we would not have been able to maintain the beauty and stature of this wonderful monument to our community and our history. After 179 years, the building looks as great as ever.
It was also announced that there is a display of century old photographs on display in the 1835 Town Hall. The 1835 Town Hall Committee in cooperation with the Sterling Historical Society reprinted more than a dozen century old photographs recently restored and digitized by the Historical Society.
Thank you to the Board of Selectmen and all Sterling residents.
